Jerman Barat, 1981
  • Bahasa Jerman
  • Bahasa Inggeris

Two sisters are fighting for social change in ’60s Germany, but their means are different. The younger, Marianne, joins the political underground, while Juliane is a journalist. When Marianne is arrested, Juliane visits her in prison. As they grow closer, Marianne is suddenly found dead in her cell.

Ulasan kami

One of Ingmar Bergman’s 11 favorite films, this is a personal portrayal of the relationship between sisters at the forefront of political struggle in severely different ways. Inspired by Baader-Meinhof’s Gudrun Ensslin and her sister Christine, the film won the Golden Lion at Venice in 1981.

Ulasan pengkritik

It is a highly intelligent and profound story set against the politics of Cold War West Germany, but is as meaningful and poignant today as it was when it was made… The film contains one of the most unforgettably moving yet simple scenes in cinema: Juliane visits her terrorist sister in jail, and in a gesture of affection she swaps her warmer sweater with her freezing little sister’s.

It contains sharply memorable characterizations and some oddly affecting episodes. And the leading actresses, particularly Miss Lampe, are utterly convincing in their grief, their anger, and their troubled yet enduring love.
