It's hard to get a Moomin adaptation right. Tove Jansson's beautifully bittersweet walk a careful tonal line that feels like a hopeful depiction of functional depression. This film manages well, achieving gently devastating moments (like the poor Groke). However, without a focussed narrative (due to being edited down from 1997 series), it's a long, scattered 90 minutes. Still, one leaves satisfied yet gently pensive.
