Ridley Scott seems more far interested in politics and history than the legend of Prince of Thieves (the Crusades and slaughter of Muslims is vociferously discussed). Not much of a thief (more Maximus Decimus Meridius than Robin Hood), Russell Crowe grew his hair for this role then inexplicably cut it. The revisionism continues as he now fights not for the poor, but for freeeedom and liberty. An interesting failure.
I don't quite understand why this film received so much negative criticism, perhaps a bandwagon type thing. Ridley Scott did a great job imagining a 12th century England, enormous battles, and a darker, more realistic rendition of the "Robin Hood" tale. Gorgeous photography, great characters adorned in spectacular costumes, bloody sieges, and a quaint love story - very entertaining.
Deadly-dull historical epic is a disappointment coming from director Ridley Scott. Some nice slick visuals, a few decent action scenes, and a capable cast are wasted in an overlong, lumbering plot that seems to be going for gritty historical realism, but is instead awash in cheesy Hollywood blockbuster cliches. Particularly disheartening when you're aware of its $200 million price-tag.
Really weak effort where Scott does his best to mimic his previous effort with Crowe, Gladiator, hoping to capture the magic once again. Sadly this is a boring retread where every beat is familiar and makes me yearn for Kevin Costner and Alan Rickman and their mullets.
Just another international epic conventional hollywoodian movie, the kinds Ridley Scott loves to make... Cate Blanchett is amazing and brings some life to this book of pictures, the rest is, as usual, expected long before it happens
A terrible film and a terrible waste of time for all concerned. Ridley Scott and Russell Crowe seem to actively dislike the idea of Robin Hood and do everything they can to destroy whatever charm the story might have had. The film is a grim, dour, depressing slog of a movie.
