Our take

A staggeringly prolific actor, Rudolf Schündler may be best known for his performances in Suspiria, The Exorcist, and The Testament of Dr. Mabuse, but he also directed more than a dozen features. Named after the popular German folk song, this carnivalesque comedy of manners is one of his very best.
