Nilai & Ulasan

  1. Andreas Holz's rating of the film The Happiest Day in the Life of Olli Mäki

Such a hollow world, manhood back then...

  2. JuanO's rating of the film The Happiest Day in the Life of Olli Mäki

  3. alai.vargas's rating of the film The Happiest Day in the Life of Olli Mäki

WOW so much better than the Hollywood based movies, it reflects what we call "Humankind and love" and the B&W film make the sensations of the emotions more real, one of the best movies I've ever seen!

  4. I.Camera's rating of the film The Happiest Day in the Life of Olli Mäki

Relying on a Finnish self-perception of innocent quirkiness, Kuosmanen's debut is a pleasant (and rightly brief) journey. The plot is surprisingly un-macho for the boxing genre, with Olli Maki's 'distractions' proving more compelling than the Great White Hopeless fight at the film's end. The cinematography marries up Raging Bull with Bergmann, and does it so successfully that I had to check its release date online.

  5. zarathustra79's rating of the film The Happiest Day in the Life of Olli Mäki

The most cute B&W film that I have seen for ages.

  6. Hoshyar's rating of the film The Happiest Day in the Life of Olli Mäki

First Finnish Movie I've ever seen. The first impression was lovely. Slow. Charming. Neo-realist. BW. It made me remember about the Portuguese movie "Belarmino", also a neo-realist, bw movie about a boxer.

  8. tinderness's rating of the film The Happiest Day in the Life of Olli Mäki

  9. Michael Hoole's rating of the film The Happiest Day in the Life of Olli Mäki

Beautiful, well-paced film about a boxer who begins to realise the beauty present in his own life within the snatched moments of companionship leading up to what everyone else expects to be his defining day. The characters are realistic and likeable allowing the film to touch upon bigger themes with a light touch. Really enjoyable.

  10. plasticprophet's rating of the film The Happiest Day in the Life of Olli Mäki

A beautiful film. I saw it last year on Mubi. It is good to see it return.

  11. Shane Ewen's rating of the film The Happiest Day in the Life of Olli Mäki

Unlike Rocky, this is a film about boxing.

  12. CarlosEsquives's rating of the film The Happiest Day in the Life of Olli Mäki

  13. Victor Morosoff's rating of the film The Happiest Day in the Life of Olli Mäki

  14. Nick Potter's rating of the film The Happiest Day in the Life of Olli Mäki

Least boxing in a boxing movie ever? I know, I know, it isn't actually a boxing movie, but you know what it is? Extremely delightful.

  15. ShawnD's rating of the film The Happiest Day in the Life of Olli Mäki

I loved this movie. It doesn't break new ground in any meaningful way, but the black and white is stunning and the simple story is refreshing: a boxer, on the eve of the professional opportunity of a lifetime, falls in love, and with that comes a wave of non-pugilistic emotions. The movie is filled with humanity in all its funny, conflicted, struggling glory.

  16. Diderot's rating of the film The Happiest Day in the Life of Olli Mäki

Lighthearted, quiet, and adorable behind-the-scenes look at the life of a boxer in Finland. Gotta love the Finns and their sexy sauna scenes.

  17. Brian Marks's rating of the film The Happiest Day in the Life of Olli Mäki

Olli Mäki is charming, if a bit slight. The 16mm black & white is an essential, perfect touch—reminds me of Truffaut, and even more recent films like Frances Ha. It was a wise choice to have very little actual boxing in a boxing film; aside from Raging Bull, few films manage to depict the sport in an interesting way. Mäki's struggles with training and his romance are far more interesting.

  18. dAlton Anthony's rating of the film The Happiest Day in the Life of Olli Mäki

A beautiful, touching film, soft spoken and straight. Runs against the grain....the texture is gripping, the acting subtle yet captivating.

  19. kat ballo's rating of the film The Happiest Day in the Life of Olli Mäki

such a sweet movie and really beautifully shot. very much worth it.

  20. Bernardo Anderson's rating of the film The Happiest Day in the Life of Olli Mäki

A great indie movie that shows that sometimes our battles we care the most are fought outside our work. It also reminds me that sometimes the things we love get ruined by the business of it. Thanks MUBI for showing us this great movie.

  21. Brotherdeacon's rating of the film The Happiest Day in the Life of Olli Mäki

Well made, non-sensational, yet warm with hearty b&w compositions, characters, and dare I say, a climate of integrity. I predict it a perennial gem.

  22. moviedream's rating of the film The Happiest Day in the Life of Olli Mäki

Fantastic movie. Wonderful performances and script. One of the best films I've seen in years. I definitely recommend this film to everyone! Remarkable direction and heartwarming realistic acting. As good as it gets.

  23. MATTEO BITTANTI's rating of the film The Happiest Day in the Life of Olli Mäki

A grotesque display of unrepentant optimism in the face of systemic failure. This movie is dangerous, probably even toxic if watched on larger-than-life screens. The overabundance of smiling characters left me shellshocked, if not irreparably damaged. I am considering suing the director and the DP. Also, I have a crush on both Oona Airola and Jarkoo Lahti but please don't tell anybody.
