A warm and fuzzy friendships-and-heartbreaks story not unlike the slew of teen movies from the 80s and 90s. Though the dialogue felt far too sophisticated for the youths, and the lead felt painfully actor-y at times, the humour was still fresh and funny (coming mainly from the supporting cast). Equal parts outrageous and subtle. Overall it had a great look with a fun vibe and was pleasantly surprising.
A champion of a movie. Sophisticated humour, wonderfully shot scenes and an 80s feel to it. Ron and Tammy Swanson in the cast? Just epic. And of course: Biaggio, a young man with an immense aura of mystic wisdom, an unique sense of loyalty and an impenetrable look which overflows confidence, self-knowledge and courage. No need to mention his body's versatility and impressive survival skills in the woods. I'm pleased.
Coming off like a cross between Malcom in the Middle and Stand by Me, TKOS is a snappy, well shot and assuredly directed film that for all of it's strengths still feels amiss in the story arc. It's spine, stripped of contemporary dressing is just all too familiar and the chance to push further into the depths of teen/parent friction is sadly missed. 3 stars
Charming, funny, wonderfully lensed and great turns by Nick Offerman, moises Arias and Nick Robinson. It is a little implausible but it still a pretty good little bittersweet story about teenagers trying to speed up their coming of age. I'm glad this is miles above Successful Alcoholics.
Might as well have been named "Kidz Bop: Into the Wild." I can only handle so many films about shitty hormonal straight teen boys looking for some rite of passage, and this was definitely not one of the good ones. Had it not been for the adults (who also suffered from some bad writing), this would have been an absolute waste of my time.
