A relative of "Longtime Companion", a look at the catastrophe of a recent period of history, for what there was of a State's discriminatory criminal irresponsibility and a bourgeois self-victimized community. Its exclusively made for television and therefore formless, but its (ambi)valent drama, Larry Kramer's merit, is indisputable. With a triumphant Julia Roberts and the inexhaustible luminosity of Matt Bomer.

Mark Ruffalo threw me off by trying so hard and always acting so loud, I hope Larry Kramer (the 'real' Ned Weeks) wasn't all that... annoying. Matt Bomer, however, was great. It is, without a doubt, a very important subject matter to represent and a story worthy of being told, but in terms of direction, by presenting just one dramatic scene/speech after another, the whole thing kind of lost some of its power.

It tries too hard to be a LGBT tearjerker, but as Felix is slowly dying, also the movie loses its thrill.

Such an important matter represented in this movie, although when you reach the end you crave for something more on the AIDS theme and a little less drama. Despite that, Matt Bomer did a really amazing job just like Julia Roberts. These two carry this drama until the end, being themselves the silver lining of this production.

Après des 1eres minutes un peu gênantes et clichés, le film démarre enfin pour bouleverser jusqu'à la fin. Magnifique hommage à ceux qui se sont battus à l'apparition du virus du SIDA dans les années 80, ce film dénonce l'immense retard du gouvernement américain à l'époque face à cette question. Avec des scènes mémorables et d'une intensité folle, le trio d'acteurs principaux est phénoménal et plein de sincérité.

You can feel the frustration, the pain, the feels.. Despite it was a parade of rants, each of them really got my nerves.. Heartful hurtful movie. Really good acting.

...and at least one of those stars is because Mark Ruffalo is someone I'd happily look at through any dumb, dull TV movie (which is what this is, unfortunately). Right-mindedness and well-warranted rage over very real injustice can blind artists to their responsibilities of execution. For much more inspired, effective AIDS-themed work by an artist/activist, see the earlier films of Todd Haynes (POISON, SAFE).

This provided the most heartbreaking and believable portrait of one of the worst outbreaks in history that goes on and has no end in sight. It loses no sympathy with any of the characters who suffer through it and go to great lengths to fight it without guarantee of success, provided by the strength and bravery of Mark Ruffalo, Taylor Kitsch, Jim Parsons, Julia Roberts, Joe Mantello, and Matt Bomer.
