RBCrickmar's rating of the film What's Love Got to Do with It

The most important aspect of this music biopic is the central focus it places upon domestic violence. Whereas the film frequently fluffs some of the softer dramatic moments, the violence is genuinely harrowing, aided by strong performances from both Bassett and Fishburne. Perhaps too much time is given to the early years, with the 70s flying by in a storm of cocaine and assaults and her 80s resurgence barely handled.
