One of the most prolific arthouse directors of the past two decades, Korean-Chinese filmmaker Zhang Lu has created a translocal cinema focused on people and the spaces that they inhabit. Informed by his own background as an ethnic Korean person born and raised in China, the films in this double bill traverse the universal feeling of dislocation in places deemed foreign. At the same time, they remain joyful comedies focused on the aspirations of the fully-realized people at their center.
