Remarkably good follow up to Sexy Beast, even blacker than its predecessor. More swear words per minute than any other film on record, including a couple of gems even Edna wouldn't say (except in church to some F-ing C. of a vicar). John Hurt staggering as a violent and obscene scumbag. Ray Winstone plays Ray Winstone and wins again.
A bit of a mind-fuck, if you will. Shakespearean. I watched it three times, still trying to understand if I love/hate it. This is set in the same fictional universe of Sexy Beast. Keep an eye on Malcom Venville. This young director will go far. Easy does it, mate. You're alright. Innit?
This spiritual successor to "Sexy Beast" is very watchable due to its grandad British cast going all gangster and delivering the film's wonderfully vulgar screenplay whilst participating in a bitmof extreme violence.
The start is very much promising. Very good story. Gorgeous cast. However, story & cast are ruined by terrible script & desasterous dialogues. A betrayed husband runs amok and seeks support from his four friends. They kidnap his wife's lover....Ray Winstone, Tom Wilkinson, John Hurt, Stephen Dillane, Ian McShane: what a precious treasure! Unfortunately not utilized.
