Our take

Following a pair of undocumented Mexican labourers in southern California, this searing home invasion film from Amat Escalante is a shocking exposé of immigrant tensions and class division. Co-produced by Carlos Reygadas, Los bastardos imbues its observational style with vividly mounting dread.
