Scott Pilgrim vs. the WorldRegissert avEdgar Wright
Wright's adaptation of the Toronto set graphic novels is an enjoyable hip romp full of quotable dialogue with a video game aesthetic that truly works in its favour. Casting is exceptional with even the most minor characters given chance to shine. Great soundtrack featuring Broken Social Scene, Metric, Beck and Nigel Goderich.
Post-adolescent unrequited courtship summed up to a tee by Scott Pilgrim: "When I'm around you, I kind of feel like I'm on drugs. Not that I do drugs. Unless you do drugs, in which case I do them all the time. All of them."
This is a very underrated film and also the best video game film ever made. I say that because this film is basically set up like a video game. Also how great is Mary Elizabeth Winstead, she looks sexy in every hair color. I'd fight seven evil exes for her.
I'm going to be honest: i don't get this movie. 1 - scott pilgrim is the biggest loser ever conceived. 2 - why does everything turn into a videogame? of course it's scott's mind but why the waste of CGI if it doesn't help the story? 3 - why defeat your ex boyfriends, get over it! 4 - the ending is crap because it has no moral, and that's what I despise in this movie. I really don't get this, can anyone explain to me?
As a resident of Pilgrim's hometown, I will say that "Scott Pilgrim" perfectly captures the sensibilities and spirit of Toronto -- it's not just very Canadian, it's also most specifically Torontonian. The beatnik local music scene, the neverending winters, the small town camaraderie in a big town, the slightly askew sense of humor... it's all there. Oh and the soundtrack rocks.
Edgar Wright, and his ability to make every single scene fun to watch, might just be the best thing since discovering fries taste great with McDonald's ice cream.
Scott Pligrim is one of Fantatstic genre movie,an Overblown Reality or Hyper Reality you must watch, don't think ANYTHING and DO NOT LET YOUR BRAIN ANALYZES ANYTHING when you watch this movie, just enjoy the movie and say..."what the fuck?"
Not sure why I couldn't groove to this. All of the humor sort of fell flat, I suppose, and while all the whimsical visual style was fun, it certainly didn't make up for whatever it was that made this so meh-worthy. I didn't care for the comic, either. When it comes right down to it, I guess I just hate fun.
