When the Valley of Peace is disturbed, it’s up to Po the panda to become a kung fu hero. He must fight his natural sloth-like instincts and transform into the Dragon Warrior he was chosen to be. It won’t be an easy feat.

I was surprised by how good Kung Fu Panda was. Despite a largely unlikable cast (not having to look at them must've helped) and a kind of generic story, the brilliant animation and fantastic visuals really pulled this one through.
Tremendously entertaining animated film is smart, original, and genuinely funny. The simplistic story is pretty predictable (as family movies tend to be), but with colorful characters, great voice work from an all-star cast, and extraordinary animation - including some genuinely breathtaking martial arts action scenes - none of that really bothered me. This one really sets the bar high for CG animated movies.
I watched this in my first year of university because some people I was hanging out with heard that I studied film studies, and wanted to show me this because it was apparently really good, and worthy of note. I haven't seen these people since that day.
Better than expected. Action scenes are very well done, colors pop, great art design (some characters oddly weak), expected score. Humor is hit/miss, mostly hit. Some characters seem important but oddly only have 2 lines, sideplots dangle unresolved. Villain needs more development, final showdown a letdown. Plot very predictable, well-worn themes. Panda/father relationship a touching highlight. Pacing strong.
A little above what I might have otherwise thought I was getting. Unfortunately most of the furious five aren't really fleshed out in this one, and Tiger doesn't really get to deal with her issues. But the proven plot model on display is complemented by a few buddhist themes and some nice visual symbolism in the end. I'm looking forward to checking out the sequel, all things considered.
