Perhaps wisely, William Lustig abandons any pretensions of this series belonging to the horror genre and commits whole-heartedly to action with this sequel, which is admittedly an improvement on the original, and contains some of the most impressive stunts I've ever seen in a low-budget, direct to video film. It feels appropriate that stunt coordinator Spiro Razatos would later work on "Bad Boys II" and "Fast Five."
A more gory, action-packed and over-the-top funny film than the original and I even felt it has better stunts too. Robert Davi and Claudia Christian is a interesting screen couple, but it is a shame we lost Joe Spinell who would have returned to his character from "Maniac" making his and this "Maniac Cop" film part of the same universe. The replacement is dreadful and lacks the same intensity of Spinell.
