A documentary about Hollywood film composers, well... Hollywood blockbusters film composers...
Fun and and entertaining for the mainstream audience, although the experience may feel like big stars showing off the beautiful mansion they live in. It would have been more interesting to get out of the Hollywood 'golden' circle and broaden it to composers working for indie films or world cinema.
As a musician and composer, I found this film to be a decent overview of the typical material you would expect to find while examining this field. However, there isn't much depth to the overview we're speaking about. We talk to a lot of prominent composers, and we see the process from beginning to end, but I feel like the whole thing glorified John Williams too much and not enough on others. Definitely good though.
Great starting-point for youngsters who don't know the significance of film music and the men behind it - even if this is all about American/British blockbusters. To be honest it is not even a definitive portrait on any film musician and his work (as only one woman is deemed good enough) and while with good intentions a true documentary should have a multi-parted documentary with focus on at least 50-60 of them.
