Alfonso Cuarón’s first feature film is an enjoyable and well-made modern screwball comedy. The film is writte, shot and edited with a lot of grace, and it is an overall great film... more-> http://swinton.tumblr.com/post/81161370495/solo-con-tu-pareja-love-in-the-time-of-hysteria
This is a nice little romp that has all the elements that would define Cuaron's later work, from the complex relationships to the other worldly camera work and editing that makes this film, and his other work, seem so natural.
A charming film done by a true figure of artistic innovation, a pivotal figure influencing the development of cinematic expression in the 20th century... a real auteur who has permanently raised the bar for Mexican cinema.
Such a charming little screwball. It was thoroughly enjoyable from start to finish. It maintained the kind of personality you'd see in a classic Hollywood film, but still covered a more modern topic.Timeless, hilarious, and so worthy of being in the Criterion Collection.
I was surprised by how funny this movie was. It was really unexpected. But what happened with Claudia Ramirez? She seems to have been banished to Mexica TV, but with her good looks and quiet ethos you would think she would be a huge international star.
Everything is green in this film, a departure from films rich in reds, and blues, which you see far more often. Tomas Tomas reminds me of a Mexican Woody Allen; (the character, not the director) selfish, neurotic, obsessive, yet ultimately harmless. Probably the most important, definitely the most enjoyable film to come out of Mexico City in the 1990's.
