After studying medicine in Germany, Anberber returns to Ethiopia to find the country of his youth replaced by turmoil. With his dream of improving the health of Ethiopians squashed, he must determine if he can bear the strain or piece together a life from the fragments that lay around him.

Since his time in the L.A. Rebellion movement, Ethiopian indie director Haile Gerima (Bush Mama) continues to make humane, liberating cinema. Teza, his sixth feature, is no different. This sweeping historical epic on his country’s tumultuous past won the Special Jury & Best Screenplay at Venice.
