This is how acting should work on screen. Canijo's method of directing actors is simply amazing because from the beginning to the end what we see is just reality, touchable and factual. I was not so passionate about the script, but in the end it turns to be irrelevant because (as I said) it's supposed to be a film about life and for this purpose "Sangue do meu Sangue" is amazing and very-well done.
The script seems taken out from the worst Brazilian and latino soap operas that have ever reached Portugal, with their unimportant domestic chats, unbelievable melodramatic twists and some threads and characters completely abandoned. But what it lacks in story it more than makes up with believable acting, scandalously good camera work and a humanistic and naturalistic form that feels both obvious and transcendent.
É tão boa a forma crua e directa como é contada a história desta família. As sequências com diálogos simultâneos provam a maestria com que Canijo capta a cena e os actores ajudam a perder a noção de que isto é ficção. O Portugal de hoje no seu melhor.
once again canijo's obvious strengths are 1) the way he perfectly handles space devising camera choreography for every single sequence 2) endless everyday dialogues without a single false note 3) rita blanco's masterful performance / the only letdown is canijo's dramatic composition - his tendency to add obvious dramatic moves that add sense of structure to the narrative but destroy any last traces of naturalism
