Not difficult to see why this is held up as Zack Snyder's finest hour - his visual flair is evident from the first frame, it's a remake not overly beholden to Romero's original, and the movie is populated with exactly the kind of stock characters you want to see sweat out a zombie crisis, each of them embellished with just enough personality from reliable character actors like Ving Rhames and Michael Kelly.
If it's not one of the best zombie movies i've ever seen then i don't know what it is. Dumb fun at its best. Clever fun at its best. Even funnier than Shaun of The Dead. The latest Train To Busan will never touch this. Pure fun movie experience. My Indonesian review : http://cinemaudy.blogspot.co.id/2017/01/dawn-of-dead-2004-film-zombie-yang.html
Not a fan of the zombie flick, but this is a good example of getting the job done. The Director's Cut doesn't shy away from totally irredeemable nihilism, which is what I want in a zombie apocalypse. No answers, no commentary, just wanton carnage.
A surprisingly good remake / reimagining of the "Dawn of the Dead" movie. It starts with a powerful beginning where the feisty heroine loses her whole family to the zombie plague before it follows the concept of George A. Romero's original closely but it do feel more sometimes like a sequel to "28 Days Later" as we suddenly have zombies that can run fast after it's victims. Tense and memorable though.
Forgettable but has its moments and Snyder demonstrates an accomplished ability to keep things moving and maintain the tension throughout. But unlike the original there is no attempt at any kind of subtext, leaving me wondering what point there was to making the film in the first place.
