Humor black as murder and murder black as night. Great police drama and character study that never loses its momentum and seriousness even when it shows great amounts of humor in its dramatic scenes. A perfect walk between that thin line of drama and comedy, and never compromises either or falls off the tightrope. Also is able to pack a few emotional punches.
One of the best true crime movies I´ve ever seen. Bong really masters both the dramatic aspects as well as keeping the thriller element taut and exciting. The acting is stellar and the production work really complements the story nicely. There is nothing I can fault this movie for. Essential viewing!!!
Not your usual murder mystery or police procedural. The efforts to find a serial killer weaves into a larger examination of ethics, human nature, and justice. As he did with The Host, Bong Joon-Ho injects new life into a familiar genre, without forgetting the humorous side. The ending here is very powerful and chill-inducing. That's how it goes with most serial killers, doesn't it? A scary thought.
