One star is for Michael Shannon. One for Willem Dafoe. One is for the producer David Lynch and one for the director St. Werner Herzog. 'Nuff said. The last one is for the film. I can not even imagine how someone could not be in love with this film.
Such a weird one. I really enjoyed it. Unfortunately so many people are just so conceited that they think because they don't get it or it's about something they don't care about, that it's a bad movie. Also people seem to think their opinion matters so much, that because they didn't like it, that it's also bad. This movie certainly isn't bad. It's not amazing either. Its pretty good. I think they missed the point .
Blew me away. Living in a time when nearly every movie is a sequel or a remake and directors try to make their films look like everyone else's can be so frustrating. It is exhilarating to see Herzog so easily craft something that is totally original. He may be my favorite director.
Why did Werner Herzog make a David Lynch film? Not that I'm complaining, since this is a darkly comic surrealist masterpiece packed with superb whacked-out performances from a stellar cast. Clearly not for all tastes, but for those with a deep love of dark absurdism, a pure joy.
this is, quite simply, herzog's best narrative feature yet. despite several scenes being hastily improvised, the final result feels so focused, and the narrative so compelling, that you'd think the entire thing was the result of years of editing. and yes, it blows his bad lieutenant away. far away. 'my son' is truly driven, and beautifully inspired, filmmaking.
