This film needs to be revisited now that Asia's story has been confirmed and her experience revealed to be one of many in a pattern of abuse. The film is no masterpiece of cinema, but it is a courageous work by a brilliant artist.
An opera of transition, healing, where pain mixes with anger, rebellion, dizziness. Also, a sensual, really sexy, soundtrack and a refreshing direction.
Asia Argento here is tremendously sincere, funny, and provocative. She is exposing her being helpless, confused and deluded. It is an intimate, personal, portrait of human beings' tendency to self-destruction and hope for change.
Love Asia, so gorgeous, so many faces ! Naive and seductive at the same time, the wreck of the showbiz and so on... Some people would say it's too much, theatrality, but it is rather biographical
I love the fact too that this is not pretentious, the transitions seem sometimes almost cheap but it goes along with the wanton aspect of the girl.
Indulgent, oblivious, pretentious, etc etc etc. But there are a few regrettably brief scenes (like the bathroom scene pictured above) where a sort of solipsistic poignancy takes root. And then she runs off and does more dumb self-destructive shit.
