I had the great pleasure of watching Chris Marker's long-buried thirteen-episode series THE OWL'S LEGACY over the course of two nights in the company of my stuffed owl Owlcibiades. No bones, man: it was heaven. You might call this monumentally inspiring nonlinear associative (very owly) symposia-network the closest thing Chris ever made to a talking head doc, but it also has that verve and all the stuff you love.
Only Marker's genius could provide a modernist paean to the magnetic force of ancient Greece. The own of Minerva is a systematic visual motif as Castoriadis, Angelopoulos, Axelos, Vasilikos, Steiner, Serres, Kazan, Xenakis among others engage in an ecstatically intellectual appreciation of the world-historical Greek spirit. The analogies with Japan impress and Hegel's Owl dictum has the last word. Essential viewing!
