"You know what I think? I think he's a phony." Probably the closest HGL got to commentary. Closest though, does not mean close. The moments of nothing happening at all are needed for when the cheap gore effects take precedent. An illusory film. Maybe I 'am' dreaming in my house... 6/10
Still delivers a combat laugh after 7th times seen! A very very good line that ever happened in early 70's splatter fest, who can forget line like this "Sarcastic broad you got that Jack/That's my girl! (tapping TV)", what a glorious silly line, and electric chainsaw was probably the first ever electric chainsaw that had in any horror film (sometimes, portable chainsaw sucks though). True classic gem!
Makeup effects vary from charmingly silly to masterworks. Unfortunately, the story becomes too implausible for its own sake. If you have 3 murders that follow exactly the same pattern and you know when and where it's going to happen, not doing anything is ridiculous even for a dumb splatter film. Ending is cheap and self-indulgent, but overall it's a fun watch for what it is, with highlight performance by Ray Sager.
Calling a HGL film repetitive is like saying water is wet, but this is ridiculous! I don’t care how great the gore is, sitting through Montag’s monologue over and over was actual torture. The ending is so brazenly stupid, it almost makes up for the pain of the rest of it.
