Our take

The late Michel Piccoli stars alongside Lea Massari in Michel Deville’s enigmatic, curious drama in which he plays a man who is suddenly taken by an obsession that leads him on a relentless quest. Under a simple premise lies a startling film that is formally playful yet existentially pessimistic.
