I found this movie when I was fourteen and it meant so much to me. It isn't an exaggeration of teen life. It's raw. Catherine Hardwicke should really stick to this--the sort of thing she knows. She can't handle big budget. Twilight sucked hardcore. Also, Nikki Reed needs to stop using her to get roles...
The "harsh realities of sex drugs and adventure" are very unrealistic. A lot of the sexual scenes play out like pre-teen porno, and the film itself basically tells the tale of how an upstanding, white, straight-A student gets in to trouble by hanging out with colored friends.
Mothers, watch your daughters! Total garbage, but it's funny how, when covering the subject of white girls "going wild" with ethnic drug dealers, a mediocre director like Catherine Hardwicke etched out a better film than a talented one like Barbara Kopple (Havoc).
Hate on this movie all you want , but you have to be honest with yourselves , this was most of you during your teen years . It digs deep into the mind of a completely normal 13 year old girl and shows her downward spiral and result of hanging with the "wrong crowd " .
