Opis

Escaping from the clinic above Lausanne where she has been confined, Diane Kramer is driven by one obsession: to find the driver of the mocha-coloured car who turned her life upside-down. Taking with her a few possessions, a bit of money and a weapon, she heads for Evian.

Nasza opinia

Nathalie Baye and Emmanuelle Devos, two of the most deft actresses in French cinema, enter a game of cat and mouse in this this complexly woven thriller wherein the lines between hunter and prey are never entirely clear. Winner of the Piazza Grande Award at the 2016 Locarno Film Festival.

Recenzje krytyków

Though it’s a phlegmatic, sometimes stumbling thriller, Moka, directed and co-written by Frédéric Mermoud, still has its share of gripping suspense. These tense moments arise not from any plot machinations but from the anticipation of the next exquisitely calibrated response by Emmanuelle Devos, the film’s star, who appears in every scene.

The movie’s climax has sufficient twists and turns for a conventional payoff. But the movie, adapted from a novel by Tatiana de Rosnay, is ultimately more concerned with the genuinely tragic dimensions of the story than its suspense angles. That point is driven home with a final scene that is likely to move audience members to tears, just as it does Diane. “Moka” is also a first-rate showcase for two of French cinema’s finest actors, Ms. Devos and Ms. Baye, both of whom do career-high work here.
