Today is a special day for Empire Records, an independent Delaware store staffed by lively music-savvy youths, as 80s crooner Rex Manning will be making an appearance. However when the team learns that the store is about to be absorbed by a big chain, they will do anything to stop it.

Released the same year as Nick Hornby’s cult novel High Fidelity, this spirited ensemble comedy similarly encapsulates the zeitgeist of ’90s record store culture. Starring Renée Zellweger and Liv Tyler, both on the cusp of stardom, Empire Records is a plucky delight with a soundtrack to die for.
