A young Polish Jew, Léon K., was 21 when he was arrested in the unoccupied zone by the French police during the raid of August 26, 1942, and interned in the Douadic camp, before being moved to the Nexon camp. Desperate, he wrote two long letters to Marshal Pétain, proclaiming his desire to live.
