Opiniões dos críticos

According to Coppola, the first version was too short, the second too long, so he gave it another shot. That it can never be a perfect film does not make is any less of a great one. It is amazing that as specific as it is to the insanity of the war in Vietnam, it speaks just as much to deeper, permanent American insanity—the one that is upon us now.

Wild, ambitious, uncompromised, and ultimately as imperfect as the Godfather films were scrupulously controlled, Apocalypse Now is, for better and for worse, its director’s defining work: How do you live up to something like that? Or live it down?

There’s certainly a lot more footage — 53 minutes, to be precise — which makes this better in certain ways than the original Apocalypse Now, though the flaws are also magnified. (Kurtz’s Cambodian savages slaughtering a caribou — actually, it’s a Filipino ceremony — and kneeling before Willard and then laying down their weapons en masse seems even more insulting and ludicrous than it did in 1979

  • Richmond Hill's rating of the film Apocalypse Now

The human condition in extremis or relocated madness extant? Variations on precarious sanity for sure. Essentially a series of elemental vignettes on psycho-trauma in the face of nihilism, stupidity and wickedness, the like most of us will never endure - for that I’m thankful. Technically magnificent with a studied tempo, hallucinogenic photography but marred occasionally by the heavy musical cues.

  • dionysus67's rating of the film Apocalypse Now

Groundbreaking and superior blow to US guilt, this may be the greatest Vietnam war film that owes a large portion of its splendor to Vittorio Storaro's cinematography. This elevates certain scenes -as in Willard's capture- to a new cinematographic version of Plato's cave myth. The paranoia, the 'overman' vision that haunts Brando's Kurtz and the respect he holds for the enemy's will-to-resist suffuse senses and mind.

  • HSBilly's rating of the film Apocalypse Now

i rewatch it as soon as i finished reading Heart of Darkness, and i admit it, this one's more interesting and more related to the Kurtz's horror. this might be because i knew the film first, and well, it might be a different story if i knew the book first. but i can't ignore the greatness in Mr. Brando's Kurtz.

  • Altair D.T's rating of the film Apocalypse Now

"Tu eres dos ¿no lo ves? uno que mata y otro que ama...No sé si soy un animal o un Dios" retrata las consecuencias psicológicas y el horror que representa en todos los aspectos la guerra. El cuestionamiento de las verdaderas intenciones de esta y la ruptura de los limites morales y psicológicos son los campos que explora una película con una cinematografía muy sobresaliente.

  • FailedImitator's rating of the film Apocalypse Now

I'm embarrassed to say how long it actually took me to finishing watching Redux. In my defense, I always watch at night -- just as I'm about to go to bed. I haven't seen the original, but from all I've read, it seems I'm going to enjoy it more. I didn't care for the French plantation or the Playboy bunnies either. That being said, this film is epic and the lighting alone is worth 4 stars.

  • Zachary W's rating of the film Apocalypse Now

Re-watching it today it occurred to me that Apocalypse Now is, in addition to every other superlative that has ever been thrown at it, one of the great contemporary films noir. Tweaking the familiar setup, Coppola places his loner anti-hero on the "one last job" in the middle of an absurdist, Dantean war picture. The classic expression of existential despair in post-WWII cinema is re-inscribed as surrealist opera.

  • Zac Weber's rating of the film Apocalypse Now

One of the most potent anti-war films I have ever seen. Francis Ford Coppola's ability to balance the art of cinema and the horrors of war is utterly mesmerizing.
