Tarantino doesn’t transcend the tropes of the revenge film, or the odd-couple buddy comedy for that matter. For all the film’s ostentatiously shocking imagery and dialogue (Tarantino employs the word “nigger” in a fashion that resembles the gimmicky scare tactics associated with director William Castle), one can’t escape the suspicion that this movie’s a bloated vanity project with delusions of grandeur.

…Tarantino is a buffoon, one of the biggest in the history of American cinema. That doesn’t mean he is unimportant, however: his originality and his undeniable talent ultimately prevent us from dismissing him because of his frequent public clownishness. Indeed, a buffoon, and especially a talented buffoon, should be taken seriously precisely because not everything he says or does is serious.

If for Lincoln slavery is an ethical battle to be fought in the house of law, for Django it is an unlawful aberration to be violently obliterated. The constitutional “debate” around slavery in Lincoln implicitly legitimizes the anti-abolitionist stance; Django on the contrary deems it too immoral and inhuman to be dealt with "democratically.

O que as pessas estão dizendo?

  • Güattarii's rating of the film Django Livre

  • .:BuNNii:.'s rating of the film Django Livre

Where to start on why this movie is so fucking awesome?! The characters are superb. Dicaprio blew me away with his offensive arrogant captivating and intensely entertaining presence. Liberating to see Jamie Foxx as a slave fighting back. Lastly, you can't forget Waltz's performance as the man who would rather die than shake Calvin Candy's hand!

  • Rattzz Matanzano's rating of the film Django Livre

Fantastic performances by everyone involved, I'm surprised Waltz was the favorite, I might've chosen Sam Jackson for best supporting. I appreciated this more on repeat viewings; Tarantino has revolutionized the gunfight between this and Basterds.

  • Evan Schafer's rating of the film Django Livre

Other than Pulp Fiction, this film is Tarantino's masterpiece. There is some awesome historical content at play here, mixed with a contemporary spin, with humor that is very accessible to a modern audience. I thoroughly enjoyed Jamie Foxx and how his character of Django develops, but also Christoph Waltz managed to crack me up more than once with his dry humor. Also beautifully photographed. Brilliant picture.

  • Matt Kovar's rating of the film Django Livre

I don't think we could have asked for a better new installment in the Django series. The West West goes Confederate South bringing with it the most extreme trials towards salvation in its bloody wake. Caught in a sad and ruthless time back in America's history where life cost cheap and everyone's on the market and nobody was free. Unforgettable.

  • commonwastrel's rating of the film Django Livre

I thought the film was excellent. Like many others, I expected the film to be over 30 minutes earlier, but the final payoff was well worth it. All of the performances were superb and the music was incorporated perfectly (the use of present-day songs was slightly jarring but you get used to it). The one part that just took me out of the movie was Tarantino's ridiculous cameo, but luckily it didn't last long.

  • TakaAwesome's rating of the film Django Livre

Tarantino's slavery odyssey/Spaghetti Western is the most unabashedly entertaining film of 2012. It's also quite brutal, repulsive and disturbing (as it should be). Waltz, DiCaprio, Foxx and Jackson are all uniformly excellent in this blood-drenched Southern fairy tale/nightmare that works as both an adventurous exploitation genre film and a ballsy look at America's repugnant past.

  • Cinemactik's rating of the film Django Livre

Seriously astonishing from beginning to end. Tarantino has crafted a solid western filled with enough action, splatter, and melodrama to justify it's running time twice over. Foxx and Waltz act their asses off in two of this years best performances, while Samuel L. Jackson steals the show every chance he can. Honestly the most fun I've had at the movies this year. Cannot wait to see it again!!!
