An ingeniously weird love story buried deep beneath a high-octane bank heist. Splashes of Selby or Burroughs and a hyperreal tone that would define the late 90s. For a second I thought I would hate it, but the opening warrants its disarmament. I appreciate the homoeroticism of Eric and his waify troupe of criminals. It was very novelistic to me, and Julie Delpy embodies a mysterious and promising depth.
It came out in a wake of "Reservoir Dogs" fame, but instead of showing the aftermath of bank robbery gone wrong, it puts the viewer right in the middle and it doesn't spare anything. It is preceded by prelude where the main protagonists are introduced in their environmental and manic state - which at one time feels like an obscure romance and the other like a narcotic vertigo but it never looses its course.
