Entertaining. A bit predictable, but nonetheless ingenious. It was good, of course, but it felt (trying to be nice here) like a filler, a treat to the fanbase (hell, they even put Irene Adler there). Lacked plot development, while having great character development.
The most thoughtful episode of the series. It is a love letter to John Watson. This proves that these two men love each other. What bothers me is that how could it begin so amusingly and end breaking your heart. When Sherlock left the party alone, the audience knew where he was heading. In the canon (The Sign of the Four), Watson got himself a wife and Holmes had a company with his 7 per cent solution. Sad.
Never looked at this show as a hardcore procedural but this is a tip into sitcom-land that pinpoints failings w/a 3 ep season and the amount of filler they manage to pack in. No surprise: third wheel Thompson wrote the risible s1e2. Cheesy gags, stop-start pacing, out-of-character bullshit - which makes the occasional bright spot painful. There's a great show under all this lumpen smug pandering crap - or there was.
