Chained Girls

Sinopsis

This jaw-dropping non-documentary by sleaze sultan Joseph P. Mawra pulls out all the stops to paint a picture of the “plight” of the lesbian, circa 1965. Of course, it’s just a grindhouse picture for the raincoat crowd–but it’s also an amazing “accidental documentary” of mid-60s Greenwich Village.

Ce spun cinefilii?

  • Korial's rating of the film Chained Girls

A valuable, and potentially funny, document for those interested in the evolution of moral standards and societal values concerning gender roles and sexual orientation.

  • Ray's rating of the film Chained Girls

An excellent documentary on the seldom seen, and often overlooked, life of dykes and their femmes. How this one escaped notice by the Academy is well beyond me.

  • El Biffo's rating of the film Chained Girls

"Only through understanding the facts, can we keep Lesbianism from becoming a serious social problem." Utterly ridiculous "documentary" presents lesbians as being neurotic, devious, possessive, jealous and potentially violent or alcoholic or prostitutes. But it's too ridiculous and dated (1965) to be offensive and isn't anything more than a pretense for showing women taking their clothes off and fondling each other.

  • msmichel's rating of the film Chained Girls

Viewed with a modern sardonic eye this 'educational' picture on lesbianism offers a few laughs and eye rolling moments. However in the context of the time it was made it's extreme homophobia and deep lack of understanding its subject matter is gob smacking. NWR's restored print was well worth saving as an interesting artifact.

  • Eric Rucker's rating of the film Chained Girls

Trivia: Joseph P. Mawra is a nom de plume, a clever anagram of the name André Breton, the actual director of films such as Chained Girls, films created through aleatory techniques developed by the Surrealists in Paris, France in the early 20th century. Here are some medical statistics about Surrealists: 23% are homo sexuals, 13% experienced their first kiss with a lobster while on holiday before reaching puberty.

  • dionysus67's rating of the film Chained Girls

Interesting specimen of armchair theory on what is regarded by the filmmaker to be a sexual subuculture. While some of the filming is interesting what is actually extremely problematic (and dated) is the so-called 'objective' and patronizing approach. That domination, for example, cuts across all sexual orientations is no news, yet this sensationalist approach is marred by the total disregard of lesbians' own views.

  • Garçon Manqué's rating of the film Chained Girls

I'm not surprised that an exploitation film made by a white cis (probably heterosexual) male is full of (supposed to be ironic) misogynistic/homophobic narration+(supposed to be erotic) ridiculous/unnecessary female nudity. As a lesbian,I'm not taking this seriously cause it's an outdated work and frankly I feel fine about myself in 2019. But I would have been ridiculed/offended/angry If I had seen this in the 60s.

  • Michael H. CLAES's rating of the film Chained Girls

False docu on female homosexuality, pretext to show clumsy strips on hypocrit comments & ridiculous music, a brawl of women & even a moronic "gang rape" closing with a good pipe!=== Faux docu sur l'homosexualité féminine, prétexte à montrer des strips assommants sur des commentaires hypocrites & une musique ridicules, une bagarre de femmes & même une "tournante" d'une sottise totale, pour finir par une bonne pipe!
