You know, when I saw the trailer for this I thought to myself, "Eh, I don't know. It's probably another dorky horror movie." But now that I've seen it I can genuinely say I thought it was pretty cool! Now the story was a bit confusing with all the "rules" about the vampires, but other than that the visuals were stunning, the story was solid, it was interesting, it kept your attention, and the acting was pretty good!
Nice 1st big budget Holywood effort from the Speirig brother with some great ideas and twists on the everyday classic Vampire themes, strong design and some genuine jump in your seat moments outweight the minor plot and lightweight acting from some of the background characters.
Rollon their next project, onwards and upwards.
An awesome movie with an interesting story, satisfying visual effects, and great actors. Forget all about what the whole vampire twilight hype has brought this last year. If you want to see a real vampire film watch this one.
I did expect more from this movie, the Spierig's "Undead" was brilliant in some crazy and unexpected ways. The "cure" would have been found by accident much earlier, could have easily been fixed with an "additive" if you know what I mean. 'Splodey vampires were sweet, however, and for what it's worth they still find some very creative ways to use vampire concepts, including a chase scene with shafts of light.
(spoiler)Very interesting angle for the vampires against humans cenario. The Spierig brothers created a (near)post-apocalyptic world, not too much unlike what we would see in some zombie flicks. This was 2009, the year True Blood's second season would premiere. Long before Neil Jordan's 2012 and Jarmusch' 2013 contributions to the vampire cinema collection. And yet I'd add it to those rare inovative bold titles.
I went in expecting garbage, so I came away from it pleasantly surprised. It's not great but for a bad film it's pretty good. Some interesting ideas (could have been brilliant ideas with further introspection) kept me from wanting to hit fast forward.
