When sensation and hype turn into an artist, I mean these two probably the same lmao. I love Banksy, anyway and I really like when he said "I mean, there's no one quite like Thierry, really." Whether it's staged or documentary, still savagely funny.
I think he did a clever thing here. First he presents his works, and then he presents the works of Mr. Brainwash, which are derivative of other artists work. What he lacks in originality he makes up in energy. When you compare the two, Banksy seems a lot better. The fact is that he's mostly a media whore which has become a substitute for being an artist ever since Warhol.
Amazing, well made and ironic film with unexpected twists on its subject and an extremely interesting focus on the creation of art and the functioning of the art market. What is real and what is camouflage?
Almost every comment on this film needs a spoiler alert. Thierry Guetta. I will just say this. And if you haven't already read it you'll read it elsewhere. Thierry Guetta. The film is about Thierry Guetta. And is Thierry Guetta real? The trick is quite interesting, whatever the answer. Divert attention and keep the mistery. Banksy is almost an escape artist. A street Houdini. Elusive to the point of abstraction.
