Both movies savor [Reeves’] aging beauty in the midst of simulated combat. The first Wick is a compact revenge story, while the second one extrapolates outward in a widening circle from John’s violent past. Death waits above, below, before, and after every shot in this nihilistic series. It’d be too sad to watch if not for the directors’ obvious love of wryly staged action coupled with Reeves’ movie star resilience. His body is the only comfort here

Perhaps the film runs a touch long; like that gun shopping montage, it’s an exhausting full course and the dessert, however tasty, can be excessive — especially with a body count blowing out to ridiculous extremes. But who’s to complain? When Wick eventually retrieves his dog after the punishing run for his life, the pup’s caretaker assures him matter-of-factly: “He was a good dog. I enjoyed his company.” Truer words have never been spoken of a film.

Like any good sequel, Chapter 2 widens and deepens the hyperviolent criminal mythology of its predecessor. It’s not satisfying enough that Chad Stahelski and Derek Kolstad… up the insanity of the first film’s bloodstorm of knuckles, blades, and bullets, but in taking the action from the 2014 film’s garages and safehouses to subway trains, stations, and outdoor concert venues, the duo trace the wide reach of the criminal organization that made John Wick the boogeyman of an assassin that he is.

  • chanandre's rating of the film John Wick: Chapter Two

Film History's first filmic videogame. Dead serious here. The whole film is constructed, acted, paced, edited, shot & framed as if it was a videogame. Don't really care about character, story arcs, plot-points. This is a Shoot 'em up Film-Videogame. Unlike the plethora of crass & embarrassing videogame adaptations,(best things in life come when one doesn't try too hard) this works. Case in point: the catacombs scene▽

  • Ghostman's rating of the film John Wick: Chapter Two

An adequate action film that excels in its action but is forgettable in anything else. Keanu is cool as always, yes, but the film never gives him much to do other than shoot people in the head. As a clothesline of action scenes, this is perfectly fine but the film feels like a missed opportunity for something more risk-taking. That being said, the last half hour is strong & the film ends on a good cliffhanger.

  • Ana Sousa's rating of the film John Wick: Chapter Two

This series is so damn addicting from beginning to end, it leaves you so immersed in its world, which is so, so rare. Loved Fishburne embodying his inner Ghost Dog with all those pidgeons. The name Ares for Rose's character was perfect - girl has rage in her eyes. That last sequence shot made me feel all sorts of emotions, from scared and claustrophobic to excited to see Keanu kick everybody's ass on Chapter 3.

  • Palmat's rating of the film John Wick: Chapter Two

Oh my... Reeves is pretty terrible (again) and the few lines he has are delivered so poorly I think he should consider a careerchange. The plot is servicable albeit ludicrous. The action is cool but VERY repetetive and gets boring. I realize that this is an action movie for the CS-generation (or whatever) that favours headshots before things like story, pace and character development. I'm too old for this shit.

  • HKFanatic's rating of the film John Wick: Chapter Two

Quantum of solace. "John Wick: Chapter Two" successfully broadens this cult franchise's comic book-style netherworld while absorbing some James Bond cosmopolitan for an extended stay in Italy. With fluidly-edited action sequences that flat-out raise the bar for Hollywood productions, "Chapter Two" is the most feverish and exciting love letter to Asian pop cinema since Uma Thurman took on the Crazy 88's.

  • Ethan's rating of the film John Wick: Chapter Two

This was an excellent thrill ride of a sequel that surpassed it's already great predecessor. Not just non-stop action, there's a lot of story and substance here and a vast universe that is a thrill to watch. Keanu Reeves maintains his badass persona with very few words. I greatly anticipate the third installment.

  • Filipe F. Coutinho's rating of the film John Wick: Chapter Two

Keanu is back and he brings more over-the-top bone breaking action and even manages to improve on the headshot count. Sure, it's fun to watch, but it's also very uneven, suffers from pacing issues and the story was just thrown out of the window. Enjoy it for what it is: a B-movie with some money behind it. But don't make it what it's not.

  • Zachary T.'s rating of the film John Wick: Chapter Two

Stahelski doesn't dial it up to 11, he breaks the fucking dial. A euphoric, gorgeously photographed opera of balletic carnage that does away with the original's somewhat tepid third act, and gets away with some pretty slick world-building on the fly; I really want to see a TV series about The Continental. Keanu, Common and Ruby Rose are all fantastic. The hall of mirrors sequence is mind-blowing. Instant classic.
