It's interesting what Woody Allen does here about not having one age better than the other and that, in fact, the best age is what you live, but you do not even realize it because you're thinking of another age. But the best of the film are the references to the artists. Just me who died laughing to see Dali seeing rhinoceros at all? And Owen Wilson giving the idea of 'El Angel exterminador' to Bunuel LOL ahahahaha
This film teaches the lesson of the dangers of nostalgia, and being stuck in the past. It’s even better in that it teaches through the lense of Woody Allen’s wit and structure, which keeps the movie light on its feet and thoroughly pleasing to watch. Like going back in time to Paris in the 1920’s, the movie keeps you in a warm glow and takes you along with fun and whimsy.
It's such an amazing accomplishment, The secret to its splendorous success lies not only on the strong sense of nostalgia that involves the film (and the direct inside joke to Woody's own personality) but also to the way he demystifies fantasy and time travel. Time travel never looked so good and his amazing witty and intellectual dialogs prove that Woody's 41st film is unique.
this movie was completely unexpected. it was very Woody Allen's style, but he took it to the next level. I'm glad I didn't know what really happens before I saw it, and I don't think anyone should. just watch it, let it take you on a wild, whimsical ride. I especially enjoyed it because I am a literary nerd (hint hint). it was a fantastic film, one of Woody's best and Marion Cotillard is beautiful!
Woody Allens most inspired, imaginative, clever, wonderful - you name it! - in almost two decades. At least that's my first reaction. I'm stunned by the perfection of this film. It's just flows, and it's just completely flawless. I want to live in this film, I want to watch it five times, it's just everything I've always loved about Woody Allen in a beautiful new wrapping. One of this year's best films, for sure.
