Ejiofor cleverly adds meaning and substance to an otherwise anecdocal tale of ingenuity by candidly talking about a much wider range of issues- from climate change to current political, social and economic pressures, from the value of tradition to a reflection on progress. Ejiofor does not let any sequence in this film going to waste and works his craft wisely to produce a compelling piece of African cinematography.
True stories which are lovingly made can produce positive or even inspirational films like this one. It felt a little too melodramatic at times but the beautiful cinematography and assured performances of the entire cast left a positive feeling overall. The world would be a better place with more kids like William.
