Jacques Demy Marea Britanie, 1972

Ned Bookman's rating of the film The Pied Piper

Fascinating and rather wonderful. IHard to imagine who the intended audience was - it's like 'The Devils' reimagined as a pessimistic fairytale Beautiful, fluid photography by Peter Suschitzky, although the lack of closeups has a distancing effect. Production values are high. And there's a fine cast of creepy character actors (and Donovan - playing a modern guitar - and Jack Wild for the hippies and the kids)
