An interesting film that has its moments but tries too hard. Sometimes it felt inauthentic, did Avary go to college? Watching the film it would make sense if he didn't. Still, it has its moments and is entertaining enough.
I think you're a rich motherfucking motherfucker who owes me a fucking fuckload of motherfuckin' cash, that's what I think, you rich motherfuckin' motherfucker. You want some blow, motherfucker? You bring me my motherfuckin' cash, motherfucker! Fuck you!
I love this film, it is both hilarious and touching. The scene where Sean and Lauren meet in the hallway, and he stares at her in a dazed fascination, and she giggles knowingly and happily bites her lip in response, is one of the greatest portrayals of "attraction" ever. It's a masterpiece, and a true cult classic!
is it just me or does all of ellis' books translate horribly to screen? this one wasn't *that* bad and stayed pretty well on course with the book (unlike american psycho which went totally off the deep end into camp-ville) but there was just something missing. although i did get a big laugh at the beginning with the whole, "oh my god, i'm fucking a townie."
Even though Van Der Beek looks the role, he doesn't have the chops. There's too many TV actors anyway. The movie is almost redeemed by Shannyn Sossamon. I read the book and thought the movie chickened out, but that's typical in America.
