Us Regizat de Jordan Peele
Black social fears are not alleviated through the teasing and mockery seen in Us; only clueless viewers would think so, and they turn out to be the audience most susceptible to Peele’s race-based conceits.

Peele unleashes a bevy of conceptual ideas about race, class, and American-ness that are only difficult to grasp if the viewer is not really looking. Us is supremely confident filmmaking, a thrill ride shot through with existential urgency.

For the first half of Us, Peele brilliantly keeps all plates spinning, both sustaining often unbearable levels of tension and advancing discomfiting ideas. . . . When Us stops focusing on the psychic toll of double consciousness—that is, after we discover the scope of the evil-clone invasion—the film slackens.

  • El Biffo's rating of the film Us

3.4* I loved the look of this (not so much the content. Horror isn't my thing; I went with my friend who loves scary movies). Lupita Nyong'o is fabulous and a pleasure to watch, I want to see more of her but hopefully something other than Action/Blockbuster/Horror. It would be quite a shame (to me) if she is pigeonholed into doing Zombie Movies (my friend says this isn't one because "zombies eat people").

  • chanandre's rating of the film Us

[UCI El Corte] Hmm. What about that Climax/Videodrome/ Stranger Things-like opening scene...? Yummy. Funny Games with Kubrickian corridors and scary shirts. (full review is coming) Thanks to PTA and Spielberg at the end...? Interesting.

  • msmichel's rating of the film Us

Ambitious film that doubles as 'Twilight Zone' style horror film and as a social commentary with a fine layered script. Performances are quite good across the board especially Lupita Nyong'o who is brilliant here. The denouement is weak compared to the rest of the film as it doesn't surprise by that point.

  • Ghostman's rating of the film Us

Us is an incredible film, one that eclipses genre by creating a vast & mirroring tableau of human behavior. The film isn't open ended but its observations & self-reflections of its characters are enormous & boundless in their suggestions & connotations. Peele's film is therefore at once psychological & political, metaphorical & literal, and ironic & forthright; all at once. Let's just say he surpasses the hype.

  • HKFanatic's rating of the film Us

The ideal film for anyone who resents being told they're too old for theme parks; it's a carefully modulated, audience-minded thrill ride, the likes of which I haven't seen in theaters since Shyamalan's "Signs," with the added benefit of the warmest and most likable horror family this side of "Poltergeist." The ending explanation is unnecessary but doesn't derail proceedings - the subterranean terror is what lingers.

  • NICOLE86's rating of the film Us

while I get the socio-economic undertone that Peele is trying to convey, but there are major plot holes that were never answered (the use of rabits and the story arc with the son). I also found the Hands Across America symbol kind of silly. I will say despite my problems with this film, it does show that Jordan Peele is one of the best filmmakers working today, his camera work and use of shadow is mesmerizing.

  • josé neves's rating of the film Us

Cinema. It has flaws, especially the music and the final, so obvious that irritates - the other that is me, of course, otherwise the movie simply shouldn't exist. And until it gains animus,it loses time in some creepy formalism that has become a habit - those slow approaches to actors via travellings or zooms. But...

  • Jason's rating of the film Us

One man's liabilities may be another's virtues. I happen to think that his broad strokes and lack of subtlety as a storyteller are 95% of Jordan Peele's considerable charm. A neat trick. I like very much how a great many metaphorical threads can be extrapolated out of the title of his latest and be made to spool around its base. It's almost like some experiment in therapeutic psychodrama w/ my name eerily involved.
