Our take

In dealing with the emergent sexuality of its marginalized protagonist, this beautifully textured fiction debut from Jeremiah Zagar has drawn comparisons to Barry Jenkins’ Moonlight. Shot largely on Super 16mm, We the Animals is a mesmerizing coming-of-age tale touched by a dream-woven nostalgia.
