(explanation of the lists: http://murnau.livejournal.com/244032.html)
In the beginning, the pioneers tried to find a language that would serve the fiction to be told and in the way, on purpose or not, they revealed the material expressions of cinema’s language – finally and gloriously accomplished in the 20’s, my ever favorite decade. Now (and for the next one, the 70’s), it’s all about the pleasure of the text, when narrative and non-fiction films flow in the same river, a wild and mysterious river. Pleasures of the flesh, called Oshima to one of his movies from this period. If one take the metaphor to its limits, the flesh may well be cinema’s material constructions and thoughts, its text. So, for this decade of pleasures (as for the next one), my lists can’t be too short or too much limited. En construcción.
