In the Ottoman province of Hijaz during World War I, a young Bedouin boy experiences a greatly hastened coming-of-age as he embarks on a perilous desert journey to guide a British officer to his secret destination.

Our take

Shot near the deserts seen in Lawrence of Arabia, like that film Theeb is an adventure that is hard to come by these days. Set amid WWI, Naji Abu Nowar’s debut paints an intimate human story of brotherhood and survival on the grand canvas of the desert. Winner Venice’s Horizons best director prize.
