Humour et Facéties des Dadas

MUBI Special

Return to Reason

Man Ray France, 1923

In Return to Reason, Man Ray extended his experimentation with photography to the moving image, sprinkling salt and pepper onto one piece of film or pins onto another… The final segment introduces his legendary model, Kiki of Montparnasse, naked, her body illuminated in stripes of light.

Ghosts Before Breakfast

Hans Richter Germany, 1928

Hans Richter, noted for his abstract shorts, has everyday objects rebelling against their daily routine.

Entr'acte

René Clair France, 1924

Still one of the best-known avant-garde films of the 1920s, Entr’acte was immediately heralded as a “cinematic masterpiece.” It stages a series of zany, disconnected scenes, including a chess match between Marcel Duchamp and Man Ray, a dizzying roller coaster course or a hearse pulled by a camel.
