Paul Schrader Double Bill

MUBI Special

Best known as the writer of Taxi Driver and Raging Bull, Paul Schrader is one of the essential American directors of the New Hollywood. Part of the “movie brat” generation—that of Scorsese, Spielberg, Lucas and Coppola—he was an avid cinephile from an early age (also a film critic) and his work reveals a profound understanding of the language of cinema, as well as a strong interest and great skill in portraying lonely characters with complex psychologies. We’re truly excited to present a double bill of two of his most iconic films.

Cat People

Paul Schrader United States, 1982

From Paul Schrader, an inspired remake of Jacques Tourneur’s pioneering B-movie of feline horror. Gracefully surfacing most of what was left unsaid & unseen in the original, this rapturous vision of sexual awakening is one of the great underrated movies of the 80s.

Blue Collar

Paul Schrader United States, 1978

Paul Schrader, best known as the writer of Taxi Driver, mounted a comeback last year with the brilliant First Reformed and reminded us how much we love some of his great directorial efforts. His debut, a story of work and crime starring Richard Pryor, is a brilliant mix of social truth and genre.
