Tim Robbins delivers a gem of a film with an astounding ensemble cast of characters playing some of the most eccentric people in history that feels like the perfect blend of Altman and the Coen Brothers. A fun ride that offers up a window into American history that isn't talked about very much.
Four stars may be a bit generous but I thought the audaciousness of the movie needed to be rewarded. Tim Robbins offers essentially a fun-filled review of the Federal Theater Project of the 1930s focused on the tempestuous production of the play "The Cradle Will Rock." He tosses in the Diego Rivera mural for Rockefeller Plaza in for good measure, with Ruben Blades relishing his role as Diego.
