Such a strange, interesting piece of comedy. The first time a heard about it, was from a sunday school teacher, it was one of his favorite movies. This never takes, like Monty Python never does, the obvious path. It is hilarious, surprising. Heretic, in the best meaning of the word. Does not feel like an attack to Christianity. Maybe, like when I first heard of it, some christians might even laugh harder. Some not.
Cheer up, Brian. You know what they say: some things in life are bad. They can really make you mad. Other things just make you swear and curse. When you're chewing on life's gristle, don't grumble; give a whistle, and this'll help things turn out for the best. And... always look on the bright side of life...
The best of Python on film with a structured narrative from which to develop the set pieces and a nice level of religious critique without becoming too pious in its own right. Try and see through the oft-quoted lines and succumb to the delicious silliness.
One of the great satires about religion, heresy, and funny enough even communism...coming from the six comedic geniuses of Monty Python. I can only quote what Python member and director Terry Jones said about the film,"'Life of Brian' isn't blasphemous because it doesn’t touch on belief at all. It is heretical, because it touches on dogma and the interpretation of belief, rather than belief itself."
A fantastically witty and funny film, as entertaining as it is efficient in deconstructing the idiotic and moronic principles that are the basis of modern Abrahamic religions. A masterpiece of film making and satire.
