Our take

A passion project years in the making for writer-director-star Warren Beatty, this fanciful late-era biopic of Howard Hughes sparkles with old Hollywood glamor. Shot with nostalgic warmth by Caleb Deschanel, Rules Don’t Apply embellishes Hughes’s eccentric mythology with Beatty’s singular charm.
